Orthodontics is a specialty of dentistry. In order to become an orthodontist, a dentist must complete a minimum of two years of advanced training before a certificate of orthodontics is awarded. Both Doctor Rob and Doctor Tom have also been certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Orthodontics. This means they have completed an optional additional two year study, and submitted their work to the board for certification, something that fewer than 25 percent of orthodontists complete.
Recent advancements have made having braces easier and more comfortable than ever. New "space age" wires are available that make it possible to go 6-8 weeks between appointments. These wires help move the teeth quickly and efficiently. While the average full treatment still takes two years, a longer time between visits means fewer total visits to the office. This makes having braces more convenient than in the past.
Options
There are now a variety of options for braces. While silver is by far the most common, clear ceramic brackets and gold brackets are also available. As seen in the photo below, all three are good looking options.
